GUEST POST – A Beautiful, Confident You!
Feeling Beautiful in the Face of It All
By: Jackie Clark
Are you a woman who has been recently diagnosed with cancer? If you are suffering from mesothelioma cancer or any of the other cancers or illnesses that affect women, you are in a place where everything feels dark and grim. You are dealing with a time when your life feels like it is collapsing in on you. Instead of giving into these feelings consider how looking good can help you feel good!
Beauty and fashion are two of a woman’s tools when it comes to making herself feel good. Whether you are an artist, a mother, a businesswoman, or a martial artist, you’ll find that daily prognosis reports on your cancer can try to take away what you are. You can’t do the things that you were once able to do, and that might frustrate you or send you into a depressive spiral. The truth of the matter is that when you are dealing with cancer, you need to think about the things that you can control and how you can use fashion and beauty to give you the feelings of contentment that you need.
In the first place, think about your favorite clothing. Is there a skirt that you love, or a blouse that makes you smile? Clothing is something that we decide on for ourselves. We make choices about cut and color and there is nothing that will change that. Put on your favorite outfits and make sure that you are thinking about how you can move forward in these clothes. Wearing the fashion choices that you have made, you are asserting your taste and your strategies on the world. If you find that your clothing no longer fits, take the time to have them tailored.
Don’t forget that makeup can play a big role in how you feel as well. One of the most disheartening things about illness or misfortune is that it makes you feel very tired and out of sorts; when you look into the mirror and see a very drawn face, this turns into something that can send you into a spiral of angst. Instead, look into a mirror with purpose. Use your makeup kit to fill in some hollows there, to wipe away some dark circles there. When you have what is your proper face on again, you’ll find that you feel much better.
Take the time to learn more about what you can do with yourself when it comes to fashion. No matter how bad you feel, your clothes and your makeup kit are there for you when you need them most. It is amazing what a bright shirt and a little blush can do to your self esteem. Don’t let cancer define who you are. Take control of your diagnosis and be Beautiful!
