Exclusive Interview With…Ruby Hammer

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – The Queen Of Beautiful Skin Ruby Hammer Shares Her Tips.

It’s a good one!

I have yet another EXCLUSIVE interview from a top Make-up Artist. This time I speak to Ruby Hammer one half of make-up brand Ruby & Millie. I started using their cosmetics at college and have used their gorgeous teal eyeshadow a number of times in some of my looks, it’s definitely a fave. Some of you may rememeber seeing Ruby on the TV show 10 years younger where she would transform ladies from tired and dated to bright and confident. The way she made each client look glowing always made me admire her.

On to the questions.

What product/products would you consider your star items in your kit?

My Aveda Exfoliant, KHIEL’S ultra facial moisturiser, Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage, eye drops from Italy.

For those starting out how would you advise building a good kit, what deserves spending more money on?

I have always said spend money on your tools, buy the best brushes you can afford, good eyelash curlers, tweezers and best foundations in a selection of colours.

What skincare products do you swear by using on clients and models prior to make-up application?
See above but I also love primers from YSL, Shu Uemura and Clarins.

It’s a very competetive industy, how can you make sure you stand out?
You always have to be true to yourself, you can’t please everyone. Gradually your unique mark and passion is felt.

What do think of beauty blogs?
I love them, they are another source of information to us all. It’s another tool to use, Some are amazing…others are just like a press release…you decide.

What’s your favourite look for S/S 12?
I love the fresh glowing skin shown in many of the shows, also the 20s style stain on the lips. Very feminine and glamourous.

My mother asks – What foundation formulas are best for mature skin and which brand you recommend?
Ones that are light reflective, Bobby Brown, Chanel, Estee Lauder. Ones that are not heavy but give you some cover. It is not just the products but how you apply them too. Use a beauty blender sponge from Cult Beauty or Urban Retreat to apply your base. Make sure it’s the right colour, not to light, not too dark.

(Hope your reading this mam, your brushes drive me nuts!)

My readers ask

Twitter question – What is the number 1 mistake women make when trying to look younger and end up looking older?
Too much bronzer, too much blusher, too much in general. Not enough blending and too harsh tones and colours?

Twitter question – What’s the best way to disguise pores?

Have regular facials and use a pore minimiser product. From Clinique or other brands, many out there, whatever suits your budget.

Such a great insight to the life of a professional make-up artist, hope you guys enjoyed this!

Exclusive Interview With…Caroline Barnes

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW – Top Tips From A Top Make-up Artist.

Get a pen and paper ready!

I am so pleased to bring you an EXCLUSIVE interview with celebrity make-up artist and Maxfactor UK Ambassador Caroline Barnes. She has a wealth of experience and wide insight into the life of a successful make-up artist.

1-How do you decide on a look for a shoot?

First it depends on what we are shooting and the story. Then you need to look at the clothes and get a feel for the style of the shoot. The stylist will already have quite a vision for the story as they would have been gathering the clothes for a couple of days. With the model in mind you need to be able to interpret how the make-up should be and also work alongside the hairstylist.

2-How do you keep your kit organised?

Err it’s such a bore sometimes but I never leave the studio until everything is clean and sparkling. Sometimes you are really tired but it’s very unpleasant for a model or celeb to see you open your kit and it filthy dirty!

3-What is your signature style when it comes to make-up?
Soft beautiful skin with a modern approach. Bringing out girls natural beauty without painting away their features is my forte!

4-For any aspiring mua’s how would you suggest approaching make-up agencies?
Be tough and don’t take rejection personally. It’s fierce competition out there for assistants but be polite, consistent and do anything for free and it will soon pay off! Phone email and keep your name in the bookers heads that way you’ll be first in their mind when they need someone fast!!

6-What skincare products do you swear by to use on clients and models before shoots or events?
Bioderma Crealine cleanser, Yonka facial spray, Ila Spa moisturiser and Origins ginger Souffle for the body, the fragrance is just wonderful!

7-What is the new look for Spring?
Glossy skin, shimmering pastels set against a bright lip!

Beckie Ray asks – When looking into a new makeup brand, what do they find to be the most important quality?
Not sure what you mean, but brands should focus on the feel of the product and the quality of the pigments.

Lainey Lulu asks – Can shimmers or even glitters ever work successfully on mature eyelids? x
Now yes as the sparkles are now so much finer than they used to be. Just keep the glitter to the centre of your lids and avoid the crows feet.

Corrina West asks – What make up product is worth spending more money on?
Foundation foundation foundation!

Sharleen Ali asks – What is your favorite product/brand and why?
I currently love all things Tom Ford but you don’t have to spend a fortune, Max Factor is an amazing make-up brand with great foundations, nail range and high performance mascaras that lots of makeup artists use in their kits!

New Season: Jimmy Choo Spring 2012

FASHION – Spring Looks Beautiful.

World renowned photographer Terry Richardson captured these beautiful images of models Magdalena Fracowiak and Jamie Bochert for Jimmy Choo’s Spring campaign.

Magdalena Fracowiak is one of my favourite models so I’m so excited by this and those shoes…OMG

Orange is huge for Summer which I’m loving as it’s my favourite colour.

Highstreet vs Designer – Satchels

FASHION | ACCESSORIES – The Satchel Debate, Which Gets Your Vote?.

I love the Fluro satchels by CambridgeSatchel.co.uk however the price tag is a little steep. I found a cute smaller version at NewLookwhich has an added feature with the gold buckle. I purchased this and love the fact I can also use it as a clutch if I tuck the strap into the bag. It goes great with a black outfit as the teal really stands out.

The CambridgeSatchel is £93.00
The Newlook bag is £10

Which gets your vote?

Making A Wave With Enrapture

HAIR | THE BEAUTY LOUNGE – Natural Looking Waves Quickly.

Enrapture is a fantastic hair tool brand that is definitely growing a huge fanbase, I’d say one of the most talked about tools from their range is their Amplify Jumbo Waver.

I have already used the Heated Rollers so can say I’m a fan of the brand, the hair waver would be easier to use than the rollers especially if your not used to applying them.

The image above is Madonna at the Golden Globes 2012 looking as fabulous as ever. You can re-create a similar look to this with the Jumbo Waver. Since the tool has large 25mm barels the waves are deeper creating more of a realistic wave but not only that it cuts time in half as the sections of hair don’t have to be as small as other brands.

What makes this unique is the Titanium plate technology, the 25mm barrels as mentioned and polished plates making them snag free.

See how it looks on my hair, it looked like I had extensions in as it made my hair look super thick.

The Gallery

The waver has settings for all hair types and a guide on what temperature is recommended for each type. I found when I used this the curl lasted until I washed it and was great for braiding as it makes the hair thicker which holds each sections in place.
